Fed Cup 2009 Final: Serena Williams pulls out
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced on Saturday that world number one Serena Williams has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Fed Cup final match against Italy in Calabria.
The new winner of the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships tournament has yet to give specific reasons for the withdrawal. USTA announced that Vania King would take Williams’ place.
King will join Melanie Oudin, Alexa Glatch and Liezel Huber.
