Teri Garr’s Revenge Saga

“Revenge is a dish best served cold…” goes an old proverb. But cold revenge was the furthest thing Hollywood actress of Tootsie fame, Teri Garr, had in mind when she discovered that her boyfriend was cheating on her. According to CNN.com, the ‘other woman’ called up Garr and confessed that she had been sleeping with Garr’s boyfriend. She also said, reportedly, that the affair had been on for quite a while till she’d caught the philanderer of a boyfriend red-handed with yet another woman. This got Garr all hot and bothered and before you could say ‘Tootsie’ off she went in a fit of dudgeon to the errant boyfriend’s house. But not before rummaging through her belongings to identify and stuff left over by him. Witnesses – had there been any – would have testified to the presence of a hammer in the belongings which were hurriedly packed into a suitcase.

Thereafter she drove to the man’s house and, armed with the hammer, entered inside. Before the flustered man could catch his breath, Garr began shattering his glass-paned windows one by one. He proceeded to make a phone call to the police but his efforts to lodge a full-on complaint were put paid to by the angry actress determined to have her revenge. The police did turn up anyway but when they saw what was going on, they mistook Garr for the victim and did everything could to try and assuage her. Sated with revenge by now, Garr left saying that she was feeling better. The hapless (now) ex-boyfriend could only watch her leave assisted by the kindly police, to his utter frustration! Post script to this incident: no charges were filed.

Teri Garr, who is widely recognized for her Academy-nominated performance in Tootsie, has also started in acclaimed movies like Black Stallion, Close Encounter of the Third Kind, and Young Frankenstein. The actress has also been a valiant supporter of multiple sclerosis after falling victim to it in 2002. To be sure, the symptoms had been manifesting themselves for about 19 years in many ways but they managed to elude diagnosis. Till in December 2006, Garr’s 13-year-old daughter Molly, had to call 911 on being unable to rouse her mother from slumber. Garr was taken to the hospital right away where the doctors diagnosed her with MS. The actress, on her part, has taken the disease in her stride and is being very brave and cheerful about it.
