PREVIOUS entries in the Terminator series saw killer robots travel back in time to the present day to obliterate any human threat to a grim future ruled by machines. In Terminator Salvation, out on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK today (Monday, November 23), we finally see that nightmarish future. This fourth adventure in the franchise is an action-packed, post-apocalyptic war film set in 2018, in the wastelands that remain after supercomputer Skynet becomes self-aware and decides to reduce civilisation to cinders in a nuclear strike known as Judgment Day. Terminator Salvation is both a prequel and a sequel, showing the future events prior ... Read Full Story

Directed by McG and set in 2018, it stars Christian Bale as future resistance leader John Connor and Sam Worthington as death-row prisoner Marcus Wright who finds himself a new player in the war between man and machine. Ok, no joke, what idiot thought adding Christian Bale to Terminator 4 was a good idea? Was it McG? Without the dumb connection to the previous films–if it had just been the adventures of Anton Yelchin’s Young Kyle Reese–it might have been fine. The callbacks to the originals are at least amusing, since they’re trying for subtly. Sure, it’s a knockoff of Road Warrior with a little Return of the Jedi thrown in but whatever, it’s not complete garbage. It’s at least diverting, more than Terminator 3 , ... Read Full Story

Not much was known of the new Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie that was well on its way to us, but one might imagine that Disney had plans of bringing another massive water-filled adventure much like their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. They had gotten so far as to hire Terminator Salvation director McG to helm the flick, and names like Will Smith were rumored for the role of Captain Nemo. None of this matters anymore now, as Disney has slammed the brakes on with force and stopped all forward progress on the project. The movie was set to tell an ... Read Full Story

It might have begun life as a ruthlessly efficient killing machine, but there's something incredibly depressing watching the soul get sucked out of the Terminator.
