An off-the-record remark made by President Barack Obama during a CNBC interview made it to Twitter via ABC reporter Terry Moran last night. And now we can all breathe a sigh of relief because we know what the prez thinks of Kanye West's VMA stunt.
Kanye West steals Taylor Swfit's moment. (Getty Images) "Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," Moran wrote on his Twitter account.
The Tweet was quickly taken down, but it was too late. It had already been re-Tweeted, blogged about and commented upon. The Tweet was out of the bag. And no one is coming out a winner on this one.
The president obviously doesn't want to be quoted while commenting off the record on something as ridiculous as anything Kanye West says or does. CNBC doesn't want its off-the-record material published. And ABC has egg on its face because one of its biggest reporters is revealed to be so tactless and unprofessional that he would Twitter off-the-record comments.
For his part, Kanye appeared on Jay Leno's new show last night to express his regret for stealing Taylor Swift's moment at the VMAs. Swift appeared on The View this morning to tell her side of the story and said that so far, Kanye has not contacted her personally.
