Texas Longhorns

Garrett Gilbert is playing quarterback for Texas in tonight's BCS National Championship game due to an injury suffered by QB Colt McCoy in the first quarter. Gilbert, a freshman from Buffalo, New York, was born in 1991 and was a USA Today All-USA player last year. Scroll down for photos. LOOK:

PASADENA, Calif. - Will Muschamp hasn't spoken with his coaching mentor in months. As the defensive coordinator and head coach designate for the Texas Longhorns, Muschamp is plenty busy, but he still likes to keep up with the guy who taught him so much. Problem is, the other coach is busy, too. And he's old school - doesn't text or e-mail or anything like that. So it's understandable that months have passed without any contact.  

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Alabama coach Nick Saban showed up to media day for the BCS championship game wearing a cream-colored suit and a tie with diagonal stripes. Texas coach Mack Brown appeared in a burnt-orange, short-sleeved polo shirt with a big ol’ Longhorn logo on it.  

For the past month, Texas head coach Mack Brown has used the "us against the world" approach to Thursday's national championship game. His reasons are the Longhorns' previous game against Nebraska in the Big 12 title game and Alabama's performance against Florida in the SEC title game. And those reasons are understandable. Texas struggled mightily against a top-10 Nebraska defense, while Alabama throttled the previous top-ranked Florida Gators...  

For Longhorn fans, the history is short but sweet: Texas holds an all-time record of 7-0-1 against Alabama. It’s been 28 years since the Horns and the Crimson Tide played, and of course they will renew their infrequent rivalry in the BCS Championship game next Thursday. What a tremendous win for the program, a tournament caliber win as srr50 aptly calls it. Lose your best weapon, play a style you’re not entirely comfortable with or accustomed to, against a seasoned group of talented, well coached basketball players, and still get the W going away. Damion James was a man amongst boys again, and we (gasp ) ran offense through him. Maybe coming back was a good idea. And Gary Johnson, the kid with a heart bigger...  

The number one rule when playing Roy Williams' Tarheels is DO NOT try and run with them. Don't tell that to Damion James and company.
