DALLAS & KOBE, Japan, Nov 9, 2009 / FW/ — New York-based designer Thakoon Panichgul who is known for his playfully romantic creations that ooze with understated elegance has been named as Creative Director of TASAKI, the high-end Japanese jeweler.

Founded in 1954, Tasaki Shinju is one of the very few companies that have continued to cultivate, manufacture and sell pearls. In 1995, TASAKI became the only company in Japan that earned the rights to purchase rough diamonds from the De Beers Group. It then established a diamond grinding and polishing system at its own factory.

Today Tasaki is a leading jewelry provider, also offering a wide variety of color stones.

“I’m looking forward to offering our customers Thakoon’s talented interpretation of fashion. The superior creativity of Panichgul caught my attention since the start- of the THAKOON brand. Thakoon’s unique creativity and eye for beauty will be united with the quality of excellence that is TASAKI. With Thakoon as the Creative Director, we will reach a new level,” commented Mr. Toshikazu Tajima, Board Director and CEO of TASAKI.

Per Thakoon, “I am very honored to be appointed Creative Director of Tasaki. It is exciting to be working with fine jewelry as it will unquestionably feed into my overall creative process. I look forward to creating a collection for Tasaki that is unique and powerful. My goal is to approach jewelry design in the same manner that I approach clothing: always move forward but respect the past.”

Thailand-native and Omaha Nebraska raised, Thakoon Panichgul captured fashionistas attention with his unique take on east meets west, combining the soft luminosity quality of Asian colors, the functional element of the American Midwest and the urban sensibility of the big city.

Making his debut on the New York runway on September 2004 under the Thakoon label, Panichgul’s creations blend various distinct influences with dynamic ingenuity. His work is an examination of innovative construction. His collection imparts a feminine spirit, poised elegance and an underlying hint of playful wit.
