daddy, you never told me

By sojournersplace on  From sojournersplace.blogspot.com
I wanted to do something special for this Veteran's Day in honor of my Father, a Captain in the US Air Force. In doing so, I tried to find out what happened during the late 1950s that caused my father and others to go on "military maneuvers" to Goose Bay Labrador (Canada) . So, I started surfing to see what I could find out. Although I didn't find what I was looking for, I did learn some interesting facts about the "goings on" at the Chennault Air Force Base in Lake Charles, Louisiana where...Read Full Story

M.A.S.H. Korean War Veteran

By TheFrontlines on  From thefrontlines.com
Veterans of the Korean War, and Prisoners of War,  have been kind enough to share their experiences from the “Forgotten War”. During the Korean War, 33,739 service members were killed in combat, 2,835 died of other deaths in theater, and 103,248 were wounded. The 2.8 wounded per fatality was higher than any preceding war the U.S. had fought in (Dept. Veterans Affairs, 2010). This interview with Dr. Martin Pfotenhaur was conducted by the Witness to War Foundation . Dr. Pfotenhaur explains what...Read Full Story

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER KOREAN WAR?

By CORKSPHERE on  From corksphere.blogspot.com
This short documentary shows clips and photos from the last war with Korea which took place from 1950 until the middle of 1953. It was known as "The Forgotten War." Over 60% of my U.S. Army Combat Engineer Company were either killed or wounded in the Korean War. The war drums are beating and we have dispatched a carrier group to the waters around Korea. The neocons want another war, but not with their sons or daughters serving in the military. If we did go to war with Korea again there would...Read Full Story

Korean War Poems by Monte Manka

By vallain on  From squidoo.com
Monte Manka grew up on a Kansas farm in the 1930s/40s, then went off to Korea as part of the occupying forces. His experiences there triggered some poetry that's entertaining and insightful. In his mid-eighties, Monte keeps writing those poems about being a Kansas farm boy and about adjusting to the very foreign culture of Korea and the restrictions of the military. Enjoy his poems and be sure to leave a comment for Monte. (photo provided by Monte Manka) Liberty's Price Korean Vet by...Read Full Story
