I really hope Tony Hajjar and Jim Ward are reading this article. Why? Because I want to be able to ask them what the hell they were thinking with the notion that The Mars Volta wasn’t the best choice for them. Just who is The Mars Volta you ask? Well let me break it down for ya’ll below. Back in 2001, my favorite band of all time had a lil falling out. I’m of course talking about At the Drive-In . At the Drive-In hailed from El Paso, Texas; and pretty much made it rain in the post-hardcore scene. But when they broke up ... Read Full Story

Just as the Mars Volta prepare to release their new album on June 23rd, there’s news that a reunion of At the Drive-In is more a possibility now than ever before. Earlier this week, Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man singer Frederick Blood-Royale interviewed Mars Volta singer Cedric Bixler Zavala in a very cool feature on music zine Drowned in Sound where artists interview other artists. Naturally, they were talking about the group’s fifth album, Octahedron when something very interesting happened. As Blood-Royale discusses the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival with Zavala, he hazards a guess that they wouldn’t entertain any offers from the festival to reunite ATDI (something the ... There will be plenty more preaching coming soon, so stick around… What GY!BE do is quite deliberate. This isn’t always the case. For instance, take Explosions in the Sky . This band does not employ noise quite nearly as much as GY!BE , however ... Read Full Story

Members of The Mars Volta tour together in Zechs Marquise and Free Moral Agents this November Considering how The Mars Volta’s songs are so complexly intertwined, it would only make sense that the band’s ever-expanding family of related projects are bound together as well. In November, two such groups, Zechs Marquise and Free Moral Agents take to the road to show us how this brood continues to grow. Zechs Marquise features multi-instrumentalist Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez (who also plays in The Mars Volta) and bassist Marfred Rodriguez-Lopez, both siblings to legendary guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Free Moral Agents is a collective of musicians founded by The Mars ... Read Full Story

The Mars Volta: Another New Drummer The Mars Volta Following a cancelled show last month in Raleigh, NC, rumors have been flying about the state of The Mars Volta. Word is that drummer Thomas Pridgen, the band's skin basher since 2007, walked out of a rehearsal in Raleigh following an argument with vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala. Pridgen confirmed leaving the band on Facebook (thanks to antiquiet.com for the JPG) where he said: "I'm...
