A film about the Merovingian and Persephone would have been ten times better!

Following the ending to Matrix Reloaded I was still anticipating Revolutions . It was almost impossible not to be excited. At the time I was one of the few that really liked Reloaded and felt the holding back of the mythology and philosophy in the second film was all because it was going to culminate into one big life lesson in the third film. Unfortunately, even after I saw Revolutions... Read Full Story
Since starting RopeofSilicon I have done theatrical reviews of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions . I then reviewed the Matrix Revolutions DVD, the Ultimate Matrix DVD set and the Ultimate Matrix HD DVD set. As a result and upon receipt of the Blu-ray edition of the Ultimate Matrix set I felt it was finally time to put this much talked about trilogy behind me.
I started by doing my first official review of the original Matrix ( read here ), and new reviews of Reloaded ( read... Read Full Story
Neo discovers that somehow he is able to use his powers into the real world too and that his mind can be freed from his body, as a result of which he finds himself trapped on a train station between the Matrix and the Real World. Meanwhile, Zion is preparing for the oncoming war with the machines with very little chances of survival. Neo's associates set out to free him from The Merovingian since Read Full Story
I think The Matrix! Part Trois has to be better than the second one, if only because it’s not as terribly boring in its action sequences. The second one had that highway battle and it was bad and the Keanu Reeves versus a million Hugo Weavings and it was bad. Here, Keanu Reeves fights one Hugo Weaving (in an atrocious performance, it’s a shame how the sequels degraded the fine work he did in the first film) in front of a bunch of non-participating Hugo Weavings. It’s better. And it’s a huge... Read Full Story

You can't get hot and bothered about the effect of pop culture without talking about the Matrix trilogy. The series single handed turned Carrie Ann Moss from a talented actress who did some 'down market' TV (prior to Matrix, her big role was in Models Inc, after that back to syndicated Canadian TV) into a cultural icon. By her own admission she can no longer wear sun glasses in public (an odd reversal for a movie actress). Matrix has been one of the most analyzed movies to come out of... Read Full Story
Second verse, same as the first. A little bit louder and a little bit worse. The Matrix Revolutions is out. Ugh. How bad is The Matrix Revolutions? Well, it kinda makes The Matrix Reloaded seem like not so bad a movie. And that's bad. For those of you who have fallen off a cliff, The Matrix Revolutions is the third and, thankfully, final film in the amazingly disappointing Matrix trilogy. Revolutions picks up exactly where Reloaded left off, with Keanu and evil-human-who-is-actually-evil... Read Full Story
Once upon a time there was a brilliant movie, known as The Matrix. Original, intelligent, exciting, it was like nothing we had seen before. The clinically insane creators of this film started a revolution by combining elements of a great many genres, and inventing startlingly new action sequences, while not insulting the intelligence of the audience. Then four years passed. Other film-makers stole left and right from The Matrix--suddenly, these refreshing elements now seemed trite and clich... Read Full Story
I saw this movie last night on German TV, and there must be something to it, because after I went to bed I dreamt I myself was caught in the Matrix, trying to convince Morpheus that an unexpected intruder to his ship was benign and ending up as Morpheus's secretary. Possibly it is the dreamlike quality of the movie that makes it a classic. There are some scenes visually compelling, if not really beautiful (e.g. the green insect penetrating Neo's body). But the excessive martial arts... Read Full Story
I think it’s funny that The Matrix is going up against a movie about a self-aware robot. From one perspective, machines are evil. From the other, a machine makes a good childhood friend who...
