An international seminar dealing with the management of port terminals was recently held in Panama, essentially dealing with issues ranging from the management of food and agricultural terminals including the current technology and economic impact thereof. Fernando Solorzano, from the Panama Maritime Authority, Carlos Gallegos, secretary of the IPF/OAS, Mariano Navas, President of the Spanish State Ports amongst others were in attendance of this strategic seminar.

A number of factors affecting the industry were tabled and discussed in the seminar, with issues such as dry bulk cargoes, agricultural food terminals, concession models, as well as technical and administrative matters pertaining to port terminals. The seminar provided a forum for port authorities to not only learn from success stories, but also gain valuable information on logistical supply chains, terminal design, and issues such as environmental protection and sustainability. A number of white papers were presented by respected authorities in the interest of furthering the handling of agricultural produce at the terminals and the furtherance of the port structure within the global context of the supply chain.
