Something is rotten in the city of Stratford-upon-Avon. It's the beam that supports the roof over the grave of William Shakespeare, and the church were he lies is urgently seeking 50,000 pounds ($80,000) for repairs. The Rev. Martin Gorick, vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, said the problem was discovered three weeks ago by workmen on the roof of the church, who were alarmed to find bits of the beam falling off. Courtyard, Stratford-upon-Avon: Gregory Doran's Illyia is an exotic Turkish land of hookahs, carpets, cushions, carpets, orthodox priests, bazaars, vibrant live folk music and west meets east in which he places the mercurial melancholy which underpins this strange play - one of Shakespeare's funniest and in Doran's hands also one of his saddest. The Courtyard, Stratford-upon-Avon: The indifferent violence of the Soviet state has become one of history's darkest passages. It is estimated that in the great purges of the Russian peasantry, which took place in the thirties and forties, Stalin murdered more millions of his own people than Hitler killed in the Holocaust.
