A community portal about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is a 1986 sequel to the 1974 classic hit horror film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The film is directed by Tobe Hooper, basing the characters on the original film. Writing credits also include Kim Henkel. The film stars Dennis Hopper as "Lefty" and Bill Johnson as " Leatherface ". The film is considered by many fans and film critics to be one of the worst sequels of all time, mainly due to its stylistic departure from the first film. Unlike its predecessor, this film sports a wildly over-the-top, almost operatic sense of campy black humor, as well as an array of gore effects by makeup maestro Tom Savini. Although it managed to recoup its meager costs, the film was considered a commercial flop. Since its initial release, however, it has developed a following. Its defenders claim it to be an intentional parody of the original Chainsaw, and point to the cinematography and surreal set design as homages to the French New Wave films of the 1960s.

Texas Chainsaw Moves To Twisted Pictures

the-texas-chainsaw-massacre-leatherfacePlatinum Dunes, busy with their Friday the 13th sequel and A Nightmare on Elm Street, have let the rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre slip – and they’ve been picked up by “Saw” makers, Twisted Pictures.

The news comes from Variety that the makers of Jigsaw’s torture-porn horror franchise Saware in negotiations for the rights to the classic video nasty property. According to their sources, the plan is to contemporize the story, setting a new remake in the present day and utilising the latest craze for 3D cinema.

For critics of the original remake, released in 2003, the change in studios presents a lot of potential for a different take on the story, in which a group of teenagers find themselves stranded and pursued by a freakish, cannibalistic family of bloody murderers. Fans of the remake (including me) who may not necessarily be a fan of the later “Saw” films may see this as a step in the wrong direction (yup, me again).

According to Variety’s sources the deal is for multiple films, meaning that an endless string of Texas Chainsaw knockoffs is looking incredibly likely. The original 2003 remake cost Platinum Dunes $9.5 million and managed to gross an impressive $110 million worldwide. The 2006 prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, failed to capture the public’s imagination but still grossed $55 million on a $13 million budget.
