Many, many people have sent me this, some as a response to my request here: "If anyone does come across an attempt, or the appearance of an attempt, to refute Nidal Hasan's Koranic exegesis, please send it to me at director[at]jihadwatch.org, and I will happily feature and discuss it here."...

I suspect Jesus would find the whole thing completely irrelevant, but since our “historical” Jesus was cast in our Malthusian past–hence the heavy bias on pro-procreation, we live with the outdated rule-set.
I have not heard this before, and I do not understand it. Can anyone explain?

The return of some Anglicans to the Roman flock is indeed an historic event for the Catholic Church. However, there are a few points that should prove difficult for the returning Anglicans that might be difficult with which to abide. Of course the first point deals with the Primacy of the Bishop of Rome as [...]

Here is Lyle Bierma on Caspar Olevianus (1536-1587), one of the first developers of Federal Theology (according to Bierma, the first, but this is disputable). Bierma here is describing how Olevianus understood the Covenant of Grace vis-a'-vis the Covenant of Works: When did God make such a pledge? [Referring to the 'Covenant of Grace'] We will be looking at this question in some detail in Chapter IV, but it should be mentioned here that for...

When believers defend religion through appeals to the ideas of "sophisticated," liberal theologians, it's important to point out that most believers have little to no contact with such theology. Most believers' contact with theology is with the far more literal, traditional theology of orthodox religion. Karen Armstrong may be the one exception to this: she is a proponent of more liberal, progressive, "sophisticated" theology whose works are...

Atheists are by no means perfect, but more and more the criticisms I see of atheists and atheists are founded at the most outlandish, most wild, most nonsensical charges imaginable. This can't be because legitimate concerns can't be found, but what possible motivation could these critics have? Can they just not identify any legitimate criticisms, or do they perhaps not find the legitimate criticisms "sexy" enough?
As they say, the squeaky...

The Invention of Lying: The film's unfortunate veers are nicely countered with a bit of subversion in which Mark, to soothe his mother and then the rest of the world, makes up the ideas of heaven, hell, and a "man in the sky." Yes, folks: Here, God is a lie, and those who believe otherwise are portrayed as fools.... From Washington City Paper.
