Face transplant recipient Connie Culp has inspired and encouraged other disfigured members of society with her brave press conference this week.

38 year old Ohio man, Ed Port suffers from a rare genetic condition known as neurofibromatosis which causes tumours to grow on the nerves, in this case on Ed’s face giving him a severe disfigurement. Ed has spoken to Fox 8 recently about his condition and his hopes for a miracle to help him and others like him who have suffered an injury or an affliction which makes them look like monsters to other everyday folk.

Ed said of the face transplant surgery that Connie Culp underwent, “Would I want to look as normal as possible by having a face transplant or would I be willing to look less normal and have reconstructive surgery without having the face transplant, the risk would have to be weighed”.

Ed has lost the hearing in his left ear and the sight in his left eye, he has been praying that doctors will find a way to help him and has set up a website where people can read about his condition and also donate towards a fund for medical treatment for Ed. After all, Connie Culp’s transplant was said to have cost $300,000.
