This is a beacon in the night. A place to think and grok and grope for meaning.... Have thoughts about this life? How do we make sense of our lives and the crazy world? What is our duty while we're alive? How conscious and actualized can we be?

** WARNING- This post is kinda’ long** Let me begin by saying that because of budget cuts, the district will no longer be paying for hotels for teachers’ training. Nor will they be providing lunch. They provide a continental breakfast (fruit, coffee, juice, croissants, and muffins) to get you there. After that, you are on your own. I know that we’re adults and we shouldn’t expect to be fed breakfast and lunch, but we had gotten accustomed to the star treatment. Now, it’s taken away? That’s why most of the teachers in the training were so uncomfortable. We were in a cafeteria on the ... Read Full Story

Taken directly from echeat.com I did read this book. I just didn’t take the time to write a review. I can remember when I read it, way back in 1985. I was in 10th grade. It wasn’t for a class. A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. “Not very long,” answered the Mexican. “But then, why didn’t you stay out longer and catch more?” asked the American. The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family. The American asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?” “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I ... Read Full Story

Welcome again to the PRISONERS OF OUR THOUGHTS conversation series. In this 2008 review, so far we have explored three of Viktor Frankl’s core principles: ---- Exercise the Freedom to Choose Your Attitude ---- Realize Your Will to Meaning ---- Detect the Meaning of Life’s Moments If you missed these posts, I invite you to review them and add your thoughts!  I think you will benefit from the review as we move on to the fourth principle. PRINCIPLE 4: --- Don’t work against yourself Avoid becoming so obsessed with or fixated on an intent or outcome that you actually work against the desired result. ... Read Full Story
