I’m the IT doormat at my office. If someone forgets how to type in their password (caps lock is on, etc) they call me to tell me that their computer isn’t working. Last week was a bad week to be the IT doormat in an office with 50 nodes (workstations) and 45 users who can’t figure out why their cordless mouse doesn’t work (batteries, duh).
On Monday, my outside tech showed up to install a second computer on our reception desk. While he was there, almost everyone downstairs fell off the... Read Full Story
I never knew what this was until I tried something new with my credit card. I wanted to try paperless billing. So I got this notice with one of my credit card statements that said to sign up for paperless billing. Sounded like a great idea, not that I am into the Green movement , but why not. So I go online, visit the credit card’s website and bam, in only 10 minutes I am signed up for paperless billing.
Let’s think about what I just did. With “snail mail”, I usually get about 10... Read Full Story
It is time to renew my driver’s license, so I head on over to the Motor Vehicle Department. Of course when I get there, there is a line a mile long just to pick a number. So after a good 25 minutes of standing in line just to get my number, I go and sit on a chair that came from a 1950’s classroom made of wood and leaning to the left.
So there I am waiting for my number to get called, looking in amazement at all the arguements taking place between customers (us) and the government... Read Full Story
It seems everywhere I go these days, there is always an upsell. I am getting pretty tired of this. If I wanted the more expensive option, I would have ordered it in the first place. Here are some recent examples;
At the movie concession stand: “For $1 more, you can get a large coke!” Remember this post and this post , I am trying to lose some weight.
At the department store: “You can save an additional 10% by applying for our store’s credit card!” Yeah right, and then I can make... Read Full Story
I ordered a computer from curcuit city in January 2008 for my daughter (Megan 13 years old ). When she got it there was a small dark spot on the screan, but it worked just fine so we didn’t think much about it. I paid 1200.00 for the computer,after using it for less than two months she used it one night and closed it down. The next morning when she opened it to complete some home work ,the screan would not come on. I called the Sony co. in San Diego and they told me it could have been... Read Full Story
What is it with their love affair of Asian cars? Ask me ten years ago where the cars with better reliability were from and I would say Japan. Today, the quality of American and European cars matches them (although I always believed European cars are superior to both). Motor Trend and the other CAR magazines get it. They named the Cadillac CTS car of the year and another magazine picked the Chevy Malibu best sedan. Audi’s cars are in a few categories with the A8 and A5 and of course BMW... Read Full Story
At least that is what I was taught in driver’s ed. This morning I had to take a two hour trip on the freeway and I was quickly reminded of why I hate driving that particular stretch of road. It is a freeway, but it has only 2 lanes in each direction. If it had three or more lanes, I probably wouldn’t have this gripe, but why do so many drivers just cruise in the left lane?
It gets so annoying to catch up to a group of cars and not be able to pass anyone because the driver in the left... Read Full Story
After visiting the doctor’s office and finding out I was a little overweight, I started paying attention more to what I am eating and drinking and what I can do to drop some of that weight. Well, I think one of the contributors to my weight is the consumption of soft drinks.
Someone once told me there is the equavalent 12 tablespoons of sugars in one 12 ounce can of cola. Now at the restaurant I had lunch at yesterday, they not only bring you one large cup, surely more than 12 ounces... Read Full Story
Why is it when you are around so called friends and you plan something a week away, everyone says “yeah, we’ll do it!”. And then when the time comes around to actually do it, they all say “sorry we can’t make it.” It seems everyone is a flake now a days. I rather you tell me upfront you can not or do not want to commit rather than wait until the last minute to cancel. Or worse yet, I have to call you and then you tell me you will not make it.
And it really makes me mad to find out you... Read Full Story
So what exactly is a Ya Ya Bean? When I first visited Prague years ago, we were trying to get something to eat. What we had to do was get some local currency. And since no one knew the name of the local currency, we called them Ya Ya Beans. So off we go to get some Ya Ya Beans so we can eat. The exchange rate at that time was something crazy, like 37 to 1. This was before the Euro in Europe and the Czech Republic was still just coming out from its communist past.
So what does my... Read Full Story
