The Detroit Red Wings overcame an early injury to star forward Marian Hossa, getting Chris Osgood's first shutout of the season in a 5-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night. Hossa, the Red Wings' leading scorer with 34 goals and 61 points in 62 games, was hospitalized for observation after slamming headfirst into the end boards early in the first period following a check by Roman Polak. Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says forward Tomas Kopecky (TAHM'-uhz koh-PEHT'-skee) might need surgery after fighting in the Western Conference semifinals. Holland said on Saturday that initial indications on Kopecky's condition were "not good" and "it appears he'll need surgery" but the team is waiting for a final report. Kopecky sustained facial injuries during a fight with Anaheim defenseman Francois Beauchemin (FRAHN'-swah BOH'-shee-mihn) in the third period of Detroit's 6-3, series-evening victory in Game 4. Chris Osgood made 30 saves in his return to Detroit's lineup after a four-game break, leading the Stanley Cup champion Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night. Derek Meech and Tomas Kopecky scored for Detroit. Alexander Frolov scored for Los Angeles, and Jonathan Quick made 39 saves.
