By awmayoras on  From probatelawyerblog.com
The Godfather of Soul passed away on Christmas Day, 2006, and generously left his $100 million fortune to a special trust set up to help poor and needy children.  Yet, four-and-a-half years later, not one child has seen a cent.  Why?   The court battle over his final wishes has dragged on … and on … and on, as court fights often do.  While most estate fights are devastating for family members, both emotionally and financially, this one has affected many more — those that needed help the...Read Full Story

The woman, named Tomi Rae Hynie, was a former backup singer of James Brown. The boy was tested in April before a judge in South Carolina ordered to have it done. Tomi Rae Hynie and the boy are not mentioned in Brown’s will. James Brown died in December of 2006.Read Full Story

By awmayoras on  From probatelawyerblog.com
After years of feuding, and months of waiting since reaching a deal, the Godfather of Soul's family and beneficiaries finally have put the will and trust contest lawsuit to rest.  My article about the lawsuit and the tentative settlement is here. The settlement, reached in January, seemed to resolve a dispute about whether Brown's marriage to Tomi Rae Hynie Brown was legitimate (her prior marriage may not have been legally ended before she married Brown) and whether Hynie's son, James Brown...Read Full Story
