Tommy Dunbar, together with Jon Rubin, founded the power-pop band the Rubinoos in the late 1970s. The band had hits with a cover of Tommy James & the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now," "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," and the theme song for the 1984 movie "Revenge of the Nerds." Tommy Dunbar filed a lawsuit against Avril Lavigne and her management in 2007, claiming that her single "Girlfriend" too strongly resembled "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend." The 2 parties came to an undisclosed settlement in 2008.
