A recent reply by Reg “Zaibatsu” Saddler on Social News Central sparked a lot of interest in the social media world. There were invitations for interviews, mentions of revolts, consoling words, outrage, and the occasional basher all throughout the comments.
Digg buried the story.
Fast.
After a questionable pair of submissions from a questionable site, Zaibatsu was banned. It seems to be happening a lot lately. Still, he sent in a request for reinstatement that was polite and... Read Full Story
After the first round of bannings, I made a bet with MikeonTV . He said that, despite Digg saying that the bans were permanent, that they would get it all straightened out and give them a second chance if they sent an email saying they wouldn’t break the rules any more and would delete all scripts from their computer. My thought was that Digg does not go back on their “word” when it comes to these types of issues (even though they have gone back on their word on other issues, but that’s... Read Full Story

For many, getting a story on the front page of Digg is a nice accomplishment. Some people submit dozens, even hundreds of stories over the months and years and never make it. Others find modest success — 15 front page stories puts users in the top 1000 ranks on the site that gets over 20 million unique visitors a month.
For a pair of active diggers, the day they hit the top 1000 list is way behind them. (more…)

When a group of us first started discussing the idea of having a mass blog campaign where Digg users would speak their mind about recent happenings at the top social media site, we considered many things. We didn’t want the posts to be guided — the bloggers’ own opinions were what mattered, not any agenda that we might have. We wanted to keep it open and free, and most of all, honest.
Tons of bloggers and non-bloggers alike have responded, sending me emails about how they really like the... Read Full Story
This is an EXCELLENT Guest Post by Kathryn Smith, proudly posted to Soshable
Yes, that’s right—I’m admitting up front that I’m a dreaded “noob”. I have neither a blog nor a website, and I’ll freely confess to being pretty much in the dark about most technology and the thing that is Web 2.0. (Or, to paraphrase a popular ad campaign, I’m a 43-year old female PC.)
However, since I didn’t wish to maintain my uninformed, ignoramus status, I decided to join Digg on July 31, 2008. At first, I... Read Full Story
Digg.com has implemented some pretty profound changes without making a peep (other than a teaser mention in a blog post last year). They have addressed most of the problems with exact duplicate submissions, once a gaping hole in their promotion style as well as their credibility.
The Digg blog mentioned 4 months ago that:
“We’re also working on a new system that will, among other things, allow us to track users who abusively submit duplicate content.”
Abusive duping is one thing, but... Read Full Story
It is well known that some sites do better than others on Digg. Whether it is because of their current base of readers helping to propel their stories to the front page or simply because the submitters who hit the sites are generally strong, some sites will hit the front page often. Some of them hit almost every time.
Here are some of these sites that get plenty of “Digg love” but that are also hated by many.
Cracked
They are considered as one of the funniest, raunchiest humor sites... Read Full Story
New Media Concepts the Digg Bury Brigade and How to Fight it. 9 references and 1 idea. Digg.com has the bury function for a real and good reason SPAM! Really, we all know it is a problem with any website in one form or another. Yet with Digg the bury feature has fast become a weapon instead of a defense. The Digg bury brigade does exist, the Digg bury brigade is real. Now that we have the simple fact out of the way that the bury brigades are real, let’s make some sense of it shall we? Digg... My timing was bad, the first article I was going to get popular and to the front page ended up getting me banned. I linked my article to DIGGBOSS API (checkfriends - http://checkfriends.appspot.com/script ) that allows you ONLY share an article to users who have not dugg the article. From what I understand this uses the Digg API and shouldn’t be labeled a “script” but I was banned anyway, along with a lot of users who followed my post (Please Stop Reshouting Me - http://www.thejimgaudet.com...
