The first chairs didn't have any foot rest but once the Barcalounger business added them to their chairs in 1947 and La-Z-Boy added it as well several years on it was to become a basic feature in the industry.
The televison show Friends re-energized the market for motion recliners as Chandler and Joey made popular the new sleeker versions of the timeless classics.
