His name is Rory McAlpine and he's the VP of Government and Industry Relations for Maple Leaf Foods Inc. - the same Maple Leaf Foods whose contaminated equipment caused the worst listeria outbreak in Canadian history which tragically led to the deaths of 22 Canadians. If I were the President of Maple Leaf Foods Mr. McAlpine would be fired in the blink of an eye. Why? Because on August 8th, at the 78th Annual Couchiching Conference during a session entitled, "Food Safety and Regulation: How Safe Is Safe Enough?" he decided to make light of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.'s role in the listeriosis outbreak. ... How was the off season? Toronto Maple Leafs added some significant names to their defense core but I still feel a lot needs to be done up front. I am satisfied by this small push Burke has given to the line-up and I hope that we compete. The best signing? It has to be Gustavsson. The guy was a the best goalie in one of the best leagues. He will push Toskala to the limit and become a very useful goalie for us down the road. Rookies up front? Ron Wilson talked about five or six rookies. Since the defense of the "new leafs" ... As expected, the Toronto Maple Leafs began to make a few roster changes earlier this week.  And while it’s obvious that they were made mostly out of necessity due to injuries, fact is—while you never want to see a player hurt—this opportunity may be a blessing in disguise for most all involved. Vesa Toskala has gone back to the IR, and John Mitchell has joined him there.  Both appear to have lower body injuries. Toskala, who had been turning...

It's hardly fair to a player who just suffered an injury to say that it happened at the perfect time, but in the case of John Mitchell and the Toronto Maple Leafs, it just may have. Mitchell suffered an MCL injury Monday night against the New York Islanders and has been put on the shelf for six weeks; bad news for him, but it could be great news for the team. Mitchell has been struggling mightily this season, and with the Leafs in the midst of...

Ian White is developing into one of this leagues best defenders. He has 12 points and is a +5 to lead the Leafs in that department. On a team that to date this season has been outscored by a margin of 76-53, being a +5 in and of itself is impressive. White was drafted in 2002 by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round, 191st overall. In 261 regular season games over his four NHL seasons, White has 91 points , is a career +12, and has...
