David Newhardt. The Pontiac Firebird was originally overshadowed by the popular Chevrolet Camaro, but the Firebird developed a loyal following and a reputation for true high-performance to earn a high-profile spot in muscle car history. It also had a role in pop culture as Burt Reynolds drove a Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit and young David Hasselhoff took direction from his talking Trans Am in Knight Rider. While 1970s environmental and insurance interests emasculated most muscle cars, the Trans Am made a defiant last stand. In 1973, Pontiac introduced the mighty Trans Am Super Duty 455, one of the fastest muscle cars ... Read Full Story

Pontiac's days may be numbered as General Motors plans to phase out the historic brand by the end of 2010, but that hasn't dampened ASC Creative Services' attempts to make a Trans Am version out of the all-new Chevy Camaro coupe. ASC has worked many times with General Motors in the past helping out in the creation and design development of cars like the 1987 Buick GNX, various Chevy SS models such as the HHR SS and Malibu SS, as well as the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V sport cars just to mention a few. 2011 Pontiac Trans AM - CarscoopThe design and development firm's ... "Have fun with KITT," sniffed some AMG engineers when a group of Norwegians showed up at Germany's Papenburg test track with a 1987 Trans Am. The smug smiles were quickly wiped off the faces of the Mercedes tuner crew when the ancient Pontiac's practice laps were as fast as the AMG cars, and the F-Body wasn't even working hard. Once warmed up, the 8.9-liter V8 unleashed all of its 1400 horsepower on the circuit, delivering a startling 407 kph (252 mph) also known as Bugatti Veyron fast. Better still, unlike the Bug, the Pontiac's lap is official. Needless to say, there's not much stock ... Read Full Story

Built by New Jersey based SLP (Street Legal Performance), the Firehawk models received various levels of performance upgrades and could hang with the best of American muscle during its day: the later models could run 0 to 60 mph in around five seconds and passing the 1/4 mile in the mid 13’s. I have always wanted a first gen Firebird, and lately have been really wanting a Sprint. I am concerned, however, about aftermarket support. Build something interesting or just build a 400 or 326? It would certainly be easier to go V8, but where's the fun in having yet another N/A V8 F-body? TRAMS_AM

I haven't taken the time to look at one of these things in a while. What a sleek, striking design—despite the bloat. At one time I called this car "cheese," but now I think it's kind of one of the high points of American car design. A real gorgeous classic. Good work, Pontiac of the '70s! alowishus wants to run a Saab Sonett III at LeMons

These are the first real life shots of Lingenfelter's 455 T/A Concept that is set to make its world premiere in the metal at this week's 2009 SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Lingenfelter joins an emerging group of tuners such as Trans Am Depot that are testing the waters for a modern-day Pontiac Trans Am conversion kit based on the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.
