JetBlue Sued by Man "Forced" to Fly in Lavatory

In what seems to be a serious case of a pilot on a power trip, a man from New York City is suing JetBlue Airways for more than $2 million, claiming he was forced to spend more than three hours of his flight, sitting on a toilet.

No, the amount of time he spent in the toilet was not a result of bad Chinese food or any other poor dietary choices. Instead, Gokhan Mutlu claims in court papers that he was forced onto the toilet after the plane's pilot made him give up his seat to a flight attendant.

Mutlu boarded the February 16 flight from New York to San Diego on a "buddy pass," a standby travel voucher that Jet Blue employees give to friends and family. Before boarding, Mutlu was informed there was no space for him on the plane after a flight attendant had taken the last seat. Shorty afterwards he was told he could board the plane and that the attendant would sit in an "employee jump seat."

About an hour and a half into the flight, Mutlu was approached by the pilot, and told he would have to give up his seat because the attendant was not comfortable in the jump seat. But, Mutlu couldn't sit in the jump seat, because it was only for JetBlue employees.

When he asked where exactly he should sit, the pilot told him to go hang out in the bathroom. Didn’t he know the airplane bathroom was the new chill spot?

Mutlu states in the lawsuit that he told the pilot he didn't want to sit in the bathroom. The pilot's ego then grew four times larger as he said, "he was the pilot, that this was his plane, under his command that (Mutlu) should be grateful for being on board," court documents stated.

So, Mutlu went to the bathroom, and stayed there for what he thinks was three hours, until a male flight attendant told him he could return to his original seat. Who knows how long he was in there, keeping track of time is pretty difficult when you're stuck in a dimly lit, foul smelling box.

The lawsuit, filed Friday, claims JetBlue negligently endangered Mutlu by not providing him with a seat with a safety belt or harness, in violation of federal law.

Next step in the evolution of the airplane, toilets with seatbelts.
