Yellow Fog Lights By Brendan Moore 01.05.2007 In the 11.10.06 Check Your Mirrors column, I wrote the following: IN California, I have noticed that people are having their clear OEM bulbs taken out of the fog light/driving light assemblies and replaced with yellow bulbs. The clear OEM lens remains with yellow bulb inside. I talked with some of these (20-something) guys, and from their point of view, this accomplishes two things; 1) it gives their vehicle a distinctive front look when the lights are on, and 2) they gain greater lighting efficiency in fog conditions since they believe the yellow light results in less ... Talk about the right car at the right time. Legendary car designer Henrik Fisker has unveiled his hybrid sports car, the Karma. Not only will the Karma hit 60 mph in under 6 seconds, but when operated properly, it will consume only one tank of gas a year. And we're not talking about George Jetson stuff, this car will be available next year. The first of its kind four-door plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan will have a starting price of $80,000. Initial deliveries of the Karma will commence in the 4th quarter of 2009 with annual production projected to reach 15,000 cars. The Fisker ... Read Full Story

Scion took the wraps off of its latest concept Wednesday, 19th March at the 2008 New York Auto Show. Dubbed the Hako Coupe is intended to the video game playing younger generation. Scion’s Hako Coupe Concept is a very rare show car which in Scion’s own words is ‘polarizing’. Scion vice president Jack Hollis explained that Hako Concept’s look is the sporty version of a box, but in fact looks more like an armored truck. The front of the car is highlighted with a load of LED headlights, a large upper grille and smaller lower grille. The hugely flared fenders are filled by eighteen ... Read Full Story

Obviously the first reason is more important, with the second reason a rationalization, but ... Read Full Story

Hermès is now in the auto business. Well, at least in the business of making cars look beautiful. Last Thursday, the luxury leather goods company unveiled the tiny Smart Car it designed to celebrate the vehicle's 10-year anniversary. The Fortwo édition Toile cars are available in 10 colours and each is fitted with Hermès leather-covered steering wheels and gear levers, with colours including fuchsia and lime, along with the brand’s original canvas toile H. Prices start at 38,000 euros, or $48,564. But if you can spend that kind of money on pimping up an economy car, why not put it into something safer? Like ... Read Full Story

Mike Mello 07.19.2007 Open headers. Moon discs. Full roll cage…”Nefarious II” had it all. While strolling the avenue earlier this month at the New England Summer Nationals in Worcester, MA, certain cars stood out for different reasons. A mid-80’s Impala put its hydraulics on display leaving opposite wheels hanging in mid-air, the row of S-10s was capped off by a rare Syclone, and a Toyota Corona appeared in two-tone blue. All of these cars captured my attention, but the following early 30’s mostly Ford(?) coupe was one of my favorites. “Flagrantly wicked or impious” is what m-w.com lists as the definition of “nefarious,” the ...
