This was the Browns-Steelers rivalry: Hall of Famers Jim Brown and John Henry Johnson trading 100-yard games. Terry Bradshaw shaking off Joe "Turkey" Jones' violent sack to torment Cleveland with touchdown passes. Bill Cowher vs. Bill Belichick. This is the Browns-Steelers rivalry: James Harrison tackling quarterbacks, as well as a Browns fan who unwisely runs onto the field. The Steelers' regulars rarely playing four quarters. Scores of 31-0, 34-7, 27-7, 41-0. A turnpike rivalry that's become a turnpike rout. Playing Cleveland twice a year once meant so much to the Steelers, they refused to shift from the old NFL into the AFC during the ... Read Full Story

The Steelers' defense, one of the best in NFL history only a year ago, isn't the dominating unit it was expected to be. The once-relentless pressure is sporadic. The ability to finish off teams is vanishing. Maybe that little bit of edginess — the quality that Browns coach Eric Mangini says makes the Steelers "salty" — is missing, too. Troy Polamalu is about to see if he can bring it back. "There's always opportunities in every game, and I just don't think we are seizing those opportunities that we normally make," said Polamalu, who watched the Steelers go 2-2 while he was out with ... Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is expected to practice on a limited basis Wednesday for the first time since tearing the medial collateral ligament in his left knee Sept. 10 against Tennessee. Polamalu, a five-time Pro Bowl player, will wear a brace on the knee if he practices. His status for Sunday's game at Detroit has not yet been determined. Polamalu did some straight-line running last week, according to coach Mike Tomlin, but must show in practice he can change direction without problem. Running back Willie Parker (toe), who sat out Sunday's game against San Diego, may be limited early in the practice week. Read Full Story

The Steelers got by for one night, barely, without a running game. What could be more difficult: getting by the first half of the season without All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu. Polamalu, a game-changing talent who might be one of the NFL's most irreplaceable players, sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during a blocked field goal in Pittsburgh's 13-10 overtime victory over Tennessee on Thursday night. Even before Polamalu underwent more tests Friday to further evaluate the injury — a sprain is a tear in the ligament — Steelers coach Mike Tomlin estimated he would be out from three to six weeks. ... Note: The quotes in this article are fictional. Excitement is building for Monday night’s game in the mile high environs of Invesco Field, so much so that Monday Night Football analyst John Gruden has already started excitedly over-exaggerating various aspects of the matchup. “Hey, they don’t call it ‘Mile Hy-perbole Stadium’ for nothing,” says a giddy Gruden. “Troy Polamalu’s hair is so luxurious, it’s been proven impenetrable by the...

If the Pittsburgh Steelers find their way through the thicket that is the NFL season and are playing to defend their title this coming February in Miami, then it is already obvious who is the only logical choice for team MVP. Troy Polamalu. The NFL's finest defense suddenly has more holes than a block of Swiss cheese in the three-plus games Polamalu has been out nursing a badly sprained left knee.
