The concept of using broadcasting and radio as a metaphor to have you look at yourself may seem bizarre to some, but I feel it's an elegantly simple concept to explain why things are the way they are. It's a connection through something you already know, but with an emphasis on you and the content you broadcast each day from a strange but strangely enlightening angle. The term broadcasting comes from an agricultural term, meaning 'scattering seeds'. My goal is to be a spark (seed) to ignite your creativity so you may cut through the clutter of your work, your money and your life to get Tuned In today and achieve your unlimited potential.
It was quite a celebration! The sales team didn't just have a great year. The team did so well financially that the radio station was catapulted from the Top 20 rankings to the Top 5 in the entire country. All in one amazing year. To some of you, this may not seem relevant, but when you discover the achievement behind this honor, you'll quickly get Tuned In to how it can work for you too. If you looked back just a few years, it was a whole different story. The radio station had been a huge... Read Full Story
A good news for fans of American country music singer , guitarist, instrumentalist and songwriter Merle Haggard. "You've got one pissed off cowboy on your hands now!" He was standing just inches from me with his finger right in my face. I was clearly not going to have any advantage considering he was about 6 feet tall and 320 pounds. My only hope was to stand my ground in my 5 foot 8 inch frame and pray he didn't slug me as I explained the situation. Our new country station was trying to make some noise to get noticed, and considering that Dwight Yoakum's tour manager had crossed the street to find me... Read Full Story
It was a look of horror and shock on her face! You would have thought it was a scene from a drive-by judging her expression, but it was anything but that kind of moment. She was standing, innocently at the gas station pumping fuel into her car. I was turning the corner in my 69 red VW Beetle. The windows were down and "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals was blasting on the radio. I was singing at the top of my lungs forcing the high notes and sitting on top of the world. I was a... Read Full Story
"Bullshit!" I was stunned for a moment. In fact, the whole group was stunned when he stood up and made the declaration in the middle of our meeting. It started off like any other new business pitch where my partner and I were proposing our services. We discussed our approach and the benefits our company could provide to them as a client. We had a polished presentation, or at least we thought so, until this ackward moment. It wasn't until Tim, the manager, explained his sudden outburst that I... Read Full Story
Are you reaching the right people? If so, are they getting your message clearly enough? Are you sure the message you’re delivering is the one for those people? In radio, as in life, you want to contact the right people and say the right things consistently to have them Tuned In to you. In the radio business, we call that reach and frequency. Reach is simple: it’s the estimated number of individuals in the audience of a broadcast that is reached at least once during a specific period of time... Read Full Story
"I learned how to be friends with everybody and do everything. The only thing I hadn't learned how to do was to learn to live with myself. I think that's probably the hardest thing we all have to do. We can lie to everybody else, but you can't lie to yourself." It was memorable words from country legend Merle Haggard while being interviewed during All Things Considered on NPR. One of the songs from his latest project, "The Bluegrass Sessions" is titled, "Learning to Live with Myself." The... Read Full Story
Most people are commenting they will just be happy when the ads finally stop! It was a commentary from a radio reporter covering the final hours of campaigning in the Iowa caucuses that could very well determine the next president of the United States. The candidates are pulling out all the stops and spending tons of money on radio and elsewhere trying to convince every one of their supporters to come out and vote. As CNN.com wrote, "After countless visits, dozens of policy speeches, more... Read Full Story
Many of us go through the same routine day in and day out. We let our habits pull us through life without ever really thinking about it. I was impressed to read about Jen MacNeil. She decided to give her 20s a big sendoff by doing one new thing every day from her 29th birthday until the day she turns 30. This idea had definitely pulled her out of a normal comfort zone to try and experience some pretty cool things. Read about the daily experiences on her blog. What adventure has taken you out...
