The band has sold and upwards of 170 million worldwide, and approximately 50.5 million albums in the U.S. The band has had six #1 albums in the US and nine #1 albums in the UK and are one of the most successful rock bands of all time. The band has won 22 Grammy awards, more than any other recording artist.
Even while maintaining its status as one of the few musical acts that
can still fill stadiums, U2 is struck by how quickly its world is
changing musically and politically. Frontman Bono notes the more polarizing atmosphere in the United States since the band performed at President Obama's inauguration in January. Meanwhile, like other bands in the digital age, U2 is struggling to grab new listeners.
