UAW is trying to keep DCX intact

Story from the Detroit Free Press:

"A day after DaimlerChrysler AG Chairman Dieter Zetsche laid partial blame for the possible sale of Chrysler at the feet of the UAW, the auto union's president said the union is working to avoid a sale."

Isn't it always like that? Chrysler gets in trouble because of their inability to design a produce that the American people want, and because of their desire to ship all of their Manufacturing out of the country. and they're having to now sell the cash cow off, they right away begin to place blame on the U.A.W. It's amazing. Sorry, The UAW just isn't going to allow their workers to be paid third world wages. and want their people to be paid a decent living.

The U.A.W. is going their best:

"Tuesday at the auto show in Geneva, Switzerland, Zetsche said one of the reasons DaimlerChrysler is reviewing options for Chrysler is that the union refused to give the company the same money-saving health care concessions it gave General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co.

Gettelfinger stressed that when the union reviewed Chrysler's books in 2006 no problems were foreseeable.

"There was no expectation that there was going to be a loss in the third quarter," he said. Chrysler lost $1.5 billion in operating income last year.

Said Gettelfinger: "Based on the information that we were provided, I would make the same decision today that I did then."

Asked directly if the UAW would reconsider health care concessions, Gettelfinger responded: "We are weighing every bit of information that we have been provided. The process has been ongoing from our point of view.""

As we can see, the big company is trying to shift the blame to the Union workers, as usual. and blame their inability to design good products for the market on our union workers. Same story different actors.

In the boomin fat times profit sharing, overtime, and pride are flowing yet when the customers wane and the sales banks bulge, its time for salaried performance bonuses, Dieter goes to stuttgart with accolades(for what?), and the union boys get the blame for the lack of profits. Everyone knows Daimler was fielding the Hemi s and the SRT_ gas guzzlers while gas prices rose to their highs and as early 05 when sales were already slumping with gas price pressures going back to sept 11- cmon, they already admitted they were out of line with the customer and couldnt react quick enough. so why are the union boys giving up everything now? I'll tell you why, MR WE WON'T BUDGE Goldfinger, and General Holifield, Nate, oh yes Nate are/were backpedaling on roller skates, they are playing hardball old school, dead as a dinosaur union tactics in a new world. A world that would have been more friendly to a uaw man if the Powers- that- be would have negotiated more intelligent contracts with the company up to 20 years ago. If its too much for the companies to handle now then something was wrong with both sides in agreeing to the workers benefits before, the times have changed, but as usual, the highest paid folks can't hedge for the future- they gloat on the easy negotiations and end up running their companies in to the ground. If Lasorda loses his job tomorrow, i'm sure he's not sweating taking a 100,000 buyout into the sunset- the real workers are the victims, the ones that built every award they ever got.
