Uh oh, UCLA Bruins experience “eminent” loss. Chris Foster, a Los Angeles Times beat writer covering the UCLA Bruins football team, described the emotions of the team as they looked at the scoreboard minutes before being roundly defeated by their upstate rival the California Golden Bears in Berkeley, California. He said, “Another loss was eminent, a rock-bottom moment…” Foster meant, “Another loss was imminent…” Indeed a loss was imminent. A minute later the final score was secured: Cal 41, UCLA 20. Eminent means “famous, renowned, outstanding.” Imminent means soon to happen or take place, associated with the thought of something evil or dangerous about ... Read Full Story

Rick Neuheisel has turned to Wooden’s writings for instruction and solace during UCLA ’s skid, which didn’t quite end in last weekend’s 26-19 loss at Oregon State. “ While winning is important, it’s not the way you judge yourself ...

Chip Kelly must be one hell of a motivational speaker. After being held scoreless in the first half—for just the second time since 2007—the Oregon Ducks overcame their three-point deficit faster than you could say "LaMichael James for Heisman in 2010." Literally. Kenjon Barner took the third quarter kickoff back 100 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. And then just 13 seconds later, on the Bruins' first play of the half, Talmadge Jackson stepped...

Headed by Ben Howland, the UCLA basketball program will always have high aspirations, but with nine of 12 scholarship players either freshmen or sophomores, there will be some issues. Bruins celebrate at Neyland Stadium after their 19-15 win over Tennessee. (AP Photo/Wade Payne) There weren't a lot of reasons to believe that the Bruins could go into Knoxville and beat Tennessee. All that didn't matter as the UCLA Bruins marched...
