The Coronation of King Obama

An aide to Barack Obama put out the word that Obama intends to declare himself the Democratic Nominee for President on May 20, 2008.  Certainly the leak is a way to test the waters and see if the media frenzy will allow him to just seize the position before the Convention in August.  This will be just another mistake in the Obama campaign as Americans don't  like people seizing power.  This sort of action will remind people of Bush-Gore 2000, when Dubya asked the Supreme Court to stop counting the votes in Florida.  If you recall that particular move wasn't to popular with the Democrats and Bush served his first term with millions of people believing he truly had stolen the office of the Presidency.  Barack Obama would be best served by letting this thing run its course, no matter how annoying it may be to his delicate sensibilities. 

This course of action seems consistent with Obama's failure to acknowledge the millions of democratic voters in Florida and Michigan whose votes have yet to be counted.  Its interesting that this great man of Hope and Change is looking a lot like a old fashioned Chicago machine politician.
