Posted on April 24, 2009 by: JordanCornblog Filed Under Soccer, etc. With lots of the WPS internationals overseas for friendlies, this should be an interesting stretch for the WPS. Here’s a quick preview from Melissa … and note, the Breakers-Red Stars game will be available for on-line viewing. Cool! 8:30 PM ET … The English nationals are tearing up the pitch, defeating Norway 3-0 in the run-up to Euro 2009. The Breakers’ Kelly Smith and Alex Scott played, and it’s not clear whether they’ll be back in the State sin time for tomorrow’s match in Chicago. Either way, congratulations, guys! Sounds like the crowds ... Read Full Story

Posted on April 17, 2009 by: JordanCornblog Filed Under Soccer, etc. HollyCornblog probably won’t like this post … but here goes. First we have an interview with Pia, who talks about the USWNT and her take on the WPS - tough to hear in parts, but interesting. Looking for someone to step into Kate’s spot … among other things. (Sounds pretty tepid about Milbrett there at the end - would love to know the inside scoop on that story)! Erin McLeod has signed with the Freedom … good news for the DC franchise, as Scurry has been looking so shaky. (Glad the Breakers get ... Read Full Story

Posted on March 9, 2009 by: JordanCornblog Filed Under Soccer, etc. The USWNT defeated Norway 1-0 on the strength of a goal by Megan Rapinoe and what sounded like at least one save-for-the-ages by Hope Solo. Now Pia and crew face her homeland (gaaaa - I hate that word - can’t believe I used it) in the final. Sweden held on to defeat Germany 3-2 , coming on strong in the tournament after starting slow (with a 0-0 tie against China). Pia looks happy … but I am guessing that the offense has her a little concerned. The offense … and Lotta Schelin. Is ... Read Full Story

Posted on March 6, 2009 by: JordanCornblog Filed Under Politics , Soccer, etc. First off, our friend Alice (who suffers good-humoredly my unrelenting pressure to become a JordanCornblog contributor) is off to tour Florence today. Happy travels, Alice! Happily, she will not have to leave before the USWNT faces Iceland in their second game at the Algarve. She (and the rest of us) will be able to follow it on MatchTracker starting at 10AM ET! Natasha Kai (the second most important Hawaiian in MY world!) had a header bounce off the pole and lead to a goal (and an assist for Tasha) in Wednesday’s ... Read Full Story

Posted on March 4, 2009 by: JordanCornblog Filed Under Soccer, etc. Check out MatchTracker starting at 7AM ET to follow the USWNT’s opening game of the Algarve Cup . They start off against Denmark, in a match-up that could prove one of their more difficult of the tournament. “It’s not a World Cup year or an Olympic year, so we can try different things and one thing we want to do is to get numbers around the ball carrier,” United States coach Pia Sundhage said . “We have some technical players here at the Algarve Cup and I think we will spend time attacking ...
