In VirtualBox at the moment, I have three virtual machines:

I have played a lot with rTorrent and wTorrent (which I've already posted how to set up) and also ruTorrent and various Web UIs for rTorrent but I've came to the conclusion that the best way (for me at least) for remote Bittorrent download is Transmission Remote GUI - I've been using it for a few days now and love it. Please note that I've only tested it on a remote Debian server but I've adapted everything for Ubuntu so it should work for it...

There's a nasty upstream bug in GTK present in Ubuntu 9.10 that makes Eclipse Galileo all but unusable -- specifically it makes clicking many buttons with the mouse just stop working. You can use tab and spacebar to make it work, but that's not much of a workaround. All you need to do is set an environment variable before starting Eclipse:

Just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04.
Despite warnings in the release notes, I've experienced no problems with any of these points:
my Centrino onboard graphics (Intel 915GM) work great, actually much faster than before!
suspend works
boot from my LUKS-encrypted harddrive worked like a charm, although my main partition wasn't using the noauto option
The only thing I've gotta get used to is the weird apple-like black-and-white look.

Although the printer HP Deskjet F2430 was automatically detected upon usb connection to my ubuntu-9.10 desktop, the 3.9.8 version of hplip that came via apt repository did not quite get printing to work.
I headed off to hplipopensource.com, downloaded and installed the latest driver (version 3.9.12 as of this writing) and got the all-in-one printer to work just following the install wizard.

Lately I tried to build openjdk7 build 76 on my fresh new kubuntu machine.
I thought it is worth recording the steps for anyone who might have any troubles
1) Check that online repositories are allowed. This can be done in GUI or by editing file /etc/apt/sources.list
2) Run update for apt-get
> sudo apt-get update
3) Install Mercurial
> sudo apt-get install mercurial
