It is "Nie wieder" for youngsters in The Baader Meinhoff Complex. The hate that hate produced By Ed Rampell As the so-called global “war on terror” continues to unravel, an extremely violent film is coming to American screens that takes an in-depth, closeup look at theBaader Meinhof Gang, one of the most notorious terrorist groups of all time, that won’t allow viewers to take their eyes off of the screen for more than two riveting hours. It’s one thing to know the facts of history. It’s another to immerse yourself into the minds of the men and women who made that history, to comprehend the complexities of their lives and circumstances. That’s the sort of intense insight provided by Uli Edel’s “The Baader Meinhof Complex.”

In the 1960s, a radical leftist group formed in Germany and became known as the Baader Meinhof Group, after its two most disparate members. Director Uli Edel presents a relatively straightforward restaging of history, sprinkled with touches of familiar irony. He covers a decade of action in his film, and he uses a lot of racing montage sequences to pass time quickly. These scenes are all expertly crafted, and when people get beaten, kicked...
