Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a Mixed Martial Arts promotion company founded in 1993 to highlight fighters from a variety of disciplines. The original intent of Ultimate Fighting Championship was to find which discipline was most useful in a real fight. The UFC initially encountered resistance as it was far less safe than any other contact sport. After revamping the UFC's rules structure to comply with state athletics commissions, the UFC (and MMA in general) began to enjoy a more mainstream appeal.
