Darrell Bruce Hair is an Australian Test cricket match umpire. umpire Darrel Hair has create controversy by accusing Pakistan of tampering with a ball, and then offering to quit from the International Cricket Council in exchange for $500,000!

After deciding that Pakistan had tampered with a ball that suddenly started reverse-swinging after 56 overs, Darrell Hair and fellow umpire Billy Doctrove penalised the tourists 5 runs and then allowed England to choose a replacement ball. However, analysis of the ball after the game showed no clear proof of tampering.

Yesterday, the world’s media reported that the result of the controversial Oval Test between England and Pakistan in 2006 is to be changed from an English victory to a draw. The ICC is expected to make this change at its meeting in Dubai following pressure from the PCB. LONDON : Controversial Australian umpire Darrell Hair has resigned from the International Cricket Council (ICC) elite umpires panel, an ICC spokesman said on Friday. The Australian newspaper reported on its website (www.theaustralian.news.com.au) that Hair had quit to take up a position as executive officer of the New South Wales Umpires and Scorers Association. The ICC made the full text of umpire Darrell Hair' s e-mail public. Mr. Hair offered to quit the ICC in exchange for $500,00 cash. Some believe that Hair's emails and tone are out of line.
