The Moulton Walk (revisited)

I decided to go for a walk this weekend and was considering doing the short Spalding Wheel (approx 4.7m) but ended up doing the walk around Moulton village again. I've now done them both twice so I might do the Spalding one again soon and post up some pictures of that one but in the meantime I took some more pictures as I was going around today and I have posted them here.

First up is a reminder of the route:

I've started the route from Station Road but you could just as easily start from the Windmill or the The Swann pub in the village (most likely candidate!).

So here we are at the Mill:



Next up its the Church



Now you can carry on past the Church and then go down Church Lane but I prefer to go through the Church yard




Its about this point that the batteries in my camera started to pack up so not many photos from here. I did have a full charge before I left but I think that they are now on their last legs and maybe need replacing some some NiMH rechargeables!

I then went down Church Lane right the way up to the busy High Road. This time, instead of crossing the road to the path, I stayed on the side of the road I was on and walked along the grass vergeway until I got to Bell Lane (1 mile marker) which I then crossed and went down Loop Lane which connects to Shivean's Gate and then goes back to the centre of the village.



Once you get back to the green in front of the Church take the left hand turning into Broad Lane which is just past Harrox House. Follow the road down past the school and resist the urge to carry straight on when you get to the part of the road where Broad Lane becomes West Cob Gate. Broad Lane carries on to the left at this point and you would now be half way through the walk.





Half way down this spike of Broad Lane you will find the Gatehouse that was there for the trains that used to come through Moulton on the M&GN; line to Yarmouth etc. You can see where the old track used to be:





You now carry on down Broad Lane and past the Onion Factory until the road becomes Long Road. At this point their is a turning to the left into Claptons Gate (not too far past the Onion factory to be honest). Take the turning and proceed until you find a left turning. The 3 mile point is just about at the turning if you are carrying on to the pub. The tree that you can see below is just after the turning that you need to take.



You then follow the road (Bakestraw Gate)and you can see the Gatehouse which you passed earlier in the distance on the left.



As you follow the road round and come back into the village you will get the following view:



You can then carry on into the village and finish at your start point. The walk is 4 miles and you should be able to do it in less than 80 minutes.
