Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce hosts FORUM ON ATTAINABLE LIVING: WORKFORCE HOUSING May 6th.
I received an email from Michael Burstine, the Chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Workforce Housing Committee and felt it was important enough to share.
I met Michael at a meeting for the Urban Land Institute: South Florida and Carribean & Terwilliger Center Steering Committee. This is a great group of people focusing on the needs of South Florida’s workforce. They work with public and private agencies as well as developers to strategize for future needs so that there are affordable and attainable housing solutions available in Palm Beach, Broward, Monroe and Miami-Dade Counties.
Here is his letter and I will post a link the PDF of the invitation flyer at the bottom of the page.
As chair of the Chamber’s Workforce Housing Committee, this event is the culmination of a two year effort of our committee. I hope that you will be there to support our efforts and also forward the invitation to any of your contacts who would be interested in participating.
The forum is a call to action on achieving results for attainable workforce housing in Miami-Dade County. The forum will feature the release of the Miami-Dade County Housing Needs Assessment followed by a conversation and interactive discussion aimed at collaboration, sharing and learning. The commissioned study provides the final piece in a series of housing needs assessments done for Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe Counties – allowing for a comprehensive look at the need for workforce housing in Miami-Dade County and throughout South Florida.
The Miami-Dade County Housing Needs Assessment provides a supply and demand analysis that includes:
- An assessment of the balance between current and projected housing supply, and current and future housing demand by geographic sub-area;
- A housing affordability gap analysis for single-family, condominium and renter markets;
- An assessment of current and projected housing supply factors on employment and economic growth;
- A determination of the percentage of new residential development that will need to be attainable to the workforce based on existing and future demand; and
- A determination of the appropriate income levels of Miami-Dade County’s population to target for workforce housing development.
Should you have any questions regarding the event do not hesitate to contact me or Marina Foglia at mfoglia@miamichamber.com or 305-577-5464. Thank you in advance for your time. I hope you have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
Michael
