Regularity is Only Good for Bowel Movements

Regular is boring. How many people do you know who strive to be 'regular' guys or gals? What would you think if I introduced myself to you like this: "Hi, my name is Jeremy, and I'm just a regular guy." I'm sure you would be polite, shake my hand and, then, forget my name the second I walk away.

Each of us has the chance to be extraordinary, as Hagen puts it; however, we must overcome the acceptance of mediocrity in our own lives.

Whenever I hear someone say, "I'm just a regular [whatever]." It grates my nerves because it smacks of false modesty. If the expression is genuine, then it's also ignorant. Each of us are special in some way, and we have a responsibility to cultivate our strengths. Some say "God's gifts should not be squandered," while others say "get off your @ss and stop being lazy."

It's good to be different and stand out in a crowd, as long as you aren't being destructive or hurting anyone. An argument could be made, though, that accepting mediocrity hurts us all. Think how the world could change if everyone contributed just a little bit more.

Regular people can do extraordinary things, and extraordinary people are average at times. The difference is that the latter sets expectations high for themselves. They strive to be the best at the things they are good at doing, rather than working to be mediocre at everything in life.

Being 'regular' is only a goal worth achieving in the bathroom; otherwise, give yourself something more challenging to shoot for in life. Get off the crapper - there's nothing extraordinary in there!
