Let Mother stay in your Vacation Rentals?

Are you 100% sure that your Mother or best friends would turn the key in the door and be thrilled with your place?  Vacation rental owners and managers can gain valuable insight into their vacation rental business by asking themselves this simple question.  If you hesitate in the least bit, it may be time to ask “why”?

Perhaps you hesitate because the place really needs a deep cleaning? Perhaps your answer is with trepidation because some important items like linens, towels or throw rugs are pretty worn?  Maybe your vacation rental needs a fresh coat of paint or the furnishings are from the 1960’s?  Maybe you know that the air conditioning works on occasion - sometimes - ok not at all.  Whatever the issues your “regular guests” will experience these problems too.

We all procrastinate to some degree or another. If you are a vacation rental homeowner or manager and you have been in the rental arena a few years, then you may have become a bit “too comfortable”.  The new, warm fuzzies of managing rentals has worn off and now you need a set schedule to review your properties to be sure these issues are given proper attention.  Sometimes, we as owners and managers feel like we should be able to operate like the infomercial tag line for Ron Popeil’s Rotisserie - “Just set it and forget it!”  (come on you know the infomercial and you bought one too!) We really can’t and shouldn’t operate with that attitude.

Tempted to procrastinate on repairs or upgrades? Would you let your Mother or best friends check in tonight? If you hesitate just take care of that issue NOW! It is not going to go away and you will rest easier knowing your guests will be happy with the choice they made to rent from you. Guess what, they come back again too - or not.
