Is this the best release on the label so far? Quite possibly so. Opening track 'Jurij' is a reference to 80's soviet leader leader Jurij Andropov renowned for his hard line right wing approach to government. Fear not comrades for there is not a fascist bone in this track which is actually rather dreamy and space-like, as you would expect from the Italian duo. The Metronomy boys have been busy! Another new single from the forthcoming album 'Nightout' comes equipped with a host of remixes. The original is a synthtastic slice of what we have come to expect from the threesome but I was most impressed with the remixes. The Kris menace remix really uses those synths to full effect by creating a spacey Italo disco mood and vocoding the voice in parts especially well. Their album was just re-released and reviewed here on Vainzine recently. The remix package is quite simply a deep / italo disco lovers wet dream. Nothing much to say on this one really, there are four superb remixes. Three of Optimo, by Matthew Dear, Optimo (the took their name from the track) and DJ Sample. I think the Matthew Dear remix is the standout track. It's an epic 10 minute tripped out electronic journey. Skip the original indie song on this heavyweight remix package. It's class is far outweighed by the remixes and as a result doesn't really warrant talking about. They do have an album coming out late September called 'Revolving Doors' that I would like to hear anyway. So these remixes are sick as fuck club bombs that are gonna blow the speakerstack and get you heading straight down the front of the dancefloor to bop your little socks off too. Deadly On Mission has already been released as a track on an earlier EP but now comes with it's own set of brand new mixes and some brand new tracks too. Metric has a wonderful talent of making dancefloor friendly synth pop with bundles of character, riffs and lovely glitchy breakdowns. The original track is toughened up by the Autokratz who give the songs a tougher bassline and a more aggressive German electro-techno sound that will work superbly in the nightclub.
