Great Flicks For Gifting Dad, Grads & Friends Part 2: Valkyrie & Revolutionary Road

From:  la-story.com
This is part 2 of a round-up of DVDs that might make great gifts. What's interesting is that most of these are holiday releases that made it to Oscar or Golden Globe awards-- and thus are pretty much on the dramatic end. Valkyrie Set in Nazi Germany, Valkyrie chronicles the daring and ingenious "July 20 plot" to eliminate one of the most evil tyrants the world has ever known. Tom Cruise stars as the loyal German nationalist Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg , the mastermind behind the plot to... Read Full Story

Valkyrie early reviews : Tom Cruise 'laughable' in Stauffenburg role

Valkyrie , the movie about the WW2 plot to assassinate Hitler, had its world premier in New York after a long and difficult journey to the screen - trailer here. There was a lot of skepticism in Germany about Tom Cruise taking on the role of the revered German resistance hero, Claus Count Schenk von Stauffenberg. Germans had difficulty imagining how 'Top Gun' Cruise could pull off a credible Stauffenburg. The actor's weirdly over-the-top talk-show appearances when he held forth about... Read Full Story

Valkyrie -- Courage and Cowardice

Director: Bryan Singer, 2008. When the plot is about an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler in the middle of World War 2, all but the most uninformed will realize that this was unsuccessful and can only end in tragedy. Here Singer ( X-Men , X-Men 2 , Usual Suspects ) reunites with screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (Oscar winner for Usual Suspects ) to deliver a compelling story which is based on actual events. And to his credit he maintains the intensity and suspense throughout despite the... Read Full Story

CRUISED ON PRETTY NICELY!

MOVIE: Valkyrie(2009) CAST: Tom Cruise, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson DIRECTOR: Bryan Singer Cinema is a strange thing. We at times feel it should portray reality and at times fantasy. When cinemas based on real stories are made they have to be "cinematically" treated to make something intriguing and special. Even reality must be portrayed with a touch of fantasy( Slumdog Millionaire ) and at times fantasy has to be treated with reality( The Dark Knight ) so as to make it an interesting screen... Movie review: War thriller Valkyrie is far from thrilling

DIRECTOR Bryan Singer made two pretty good and well-received X-Men movies and then the somewhat off-target Superman Returns, so I was very keen to see what he turned his talents to next. He went on to make Valkyrie, a wartime thriller based on the true story of a plot by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg to assassinate Adolf Hitler and use the Operation Valkyrie national contingency plan to take control of Germany. It was released in the USA on December 26 and here in the UK on February... Read Full Story

Valkyrie - Movie Review

Now I personally am a big enough fan of both Tom Cruise and director Bryan Singer (of "The Usual Suspects", the X-Men series and "Superman Returns") that I didn't require too much more to get me interested in "Valkyrie". However, ever since just before the Oscar Awards this year, all the news that I heard about the movie, and the fact that it was a WW-II movie pretty much made it mandatory that I caught this movie before it became too old and too cold (read 'not hot news anymore' kind of... Movie Review: Valkyrie

From:  fusedfilm.com
So completely bored and filled from lunch, my friend and I decided that we wanted to go see a movie. Ah yes, indulge in the glorious-ness of vacation at Christmas and go see one those Hollywood Oscar-bait films. After deliberation we both agreed on seeing Brian Singer’s latest theatrical development, Valkyrie . So before I tell you whether or not the movie is worth seeing I wanted to mention that I had heard much being said about this movie and that people had problems with the German... Read Full Story

VALKYRIE (2008) *** movie review by COOP

In every scene in this film Tom Cruise’s character wears a uniform with a swastika on the lapel. One might think he’s taking a risky career move with his role in “Valkyrie.” In fact, he’s not. Here he plays a character so morally incorruptible and so zealously anti-Nazi, you can’t mistake him for one of the bad guys, not even while wearing the Nazi symbol of hate. This is quite the opposite of his (Golden Globe Nominated???) performance earlier this year in “Tropic Thunder” as a... Read Full Story

Oscar-nominee Tom Cruise ( Mission Impossible, Minority Report ) stars as the loyal... Read Full Story

Making Heroes.............

I was at first disturbed when i heard that this film was being made and i am even more disturbed now that it has been released. In fact its been out a long while now and i don't like it one bit. As a none American you always worry when Hollywood is going to produce a film about real events, as examples i will point to Braveheart and U-571, here Hollywood went to great lengths to distort history and i feel that its happening again. The film in question is Valkyrie starring crazy, midget... Read Full Story
