French singer and model Vanessa Paradis first hit the charts in 1987. Her single "Joe le Taxi" spent 11 weeks at the top of the French charts, and proved an international success. She recorded two albums in Paris before traveling to New York in 1991 to record her self-titled English-language debut, with Lenny Kravitz as producer. The album's "Be My Baby" was also a hit, but Paradis' popularity waned a bit. She recorded Live in 1994.

According to Elle, Vanessa Paradis was chosen for the campaign by Miuccia Prada, because she reflects a ‘certain powerful independence’. She perfectly captures the heart of the new Miu Miu collection - ‘the overlapping qualities of fragility and feminine strength.’ In this picture, Vanessa is wearing a superhero-worthy monogrammed top and toting the new “it” bag.
