A DAY IN THE HARD LIFE WITH JOHN DOTE'

 The New York Times

John Dote' and his new album "Hard Life" Heating up the Internet Airwaves

There is never a dull moment in the HARD LIFE of musical genious John Dote' who just released the album which he wrote and produced. Touching off a major spark like electricty flashing through orbit and entering earth , the new album lands at number 1 on internet radio. The Celebrity Records Spotlight series zooms in on recording artist and producer John Dote'. From San Francisco to Hollywood, New York and Florida to Las Vegas, Dote' has traveled the country and created soundtracks to fill a lifetime full of what Hard Life is really all about. Dote', a soul survivor could have been the fifth Beatle...Leaving behind an image that was created by the drummer of HAWAII FIVE-0 , CHARLIE'S ANGELS  and DYNASTY , Dote' has completed his new catalogue soundtrack album respectively titled "Hard Life" on The Celebrity Records label.

With a compilation of alternative to dance and pop to easy listening of the Best of John Dote' from 1986 to 2006, this full length feature album is bound to be a classic. Synthesized with melodic hooks and upbeat tempo with original flare and vocal arrangements, Dote' delivers every song as they were meant to sound. Dote' has not limited himself to just being a recording artist. He has also been in the promotional arena as well. He was the creator of the hit television series "John Dote' Night Beat In Las Vegas |" as seen on The UPN-Screen Gems Network. In 2000, Dote' approached Bonnie Berkurt of Capitol Records in New York. He agreed to promote the entire Capitol catalogue which included Garth Brooks, Merideth Brooks, Lucious Jackson and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. And in exchange, Capitol would help Dote' launch his show which became a success.

Soon, other major and independant labels were seeking Dote's signiature as well. Dote' now found himself promoting for MCA, Arista, Geffin, Dreamworks, Priority, Jive, A&M and many others. And other major artists whose paths were launched included Britney Spears "Oops I Did It Again", Santana with the 9 time Grammy award smash "Smooth" and Creed's "With Arms Wide Open" which all made it to the top of The Billboard charts. It was during this period that Dote' was preparing The Hard Life album producing it ever cautiously with the ever changing trends, sounds and fashions of the music industry.

He wanted to create an album that wouldn't become outdated. Yet he constantly had to put his project on hold as his promotions led him to groups as The Back Street Boys, N Sync, Whitney Houston and The A-Teens with the smash hit Mama Mia which is now a huge hit "live" show on the Vegas strip. Surrounded by mixing boards and synthesizers in his Las Vegas home, it was inevitable that Hard Life would become a reality. This is by far the best John Dote' album that he has recorded on the Celebrity label.

The soundtracks take you through real mood swings, this is a serious album. Reflections if you will of the day to day struggles and the curiosity of what am I even doing here? Answer...Music! But the music also covers relationships gone bad, another heartfelt reality that all can relate to. These are the moments that Dote' gathers a strength from deep within and puts his creation to wax. Get ready for a musical experience of a lifetime. Dote' has rubbed shoulders with the likes of LeAnn Rimes, Janet Jackson, Santana, Legendary John Lee Hooker, The Kotton Mouth Kings and so many others. And they certainly have rubbed off on him as well.

Having been around a variety of styles of appealing music from latin and salsa, a New York tradition and inheritance, to the British invasion of The Beatles, to the sounds of The San Francisco Bay Area, Hard Life is a unique original album and style all of it's own. All the instruments were performed by Dote' including all the lead and background vocals. In addition to this task, he also recorded, produced, mixed an engineered his own sessions. He is the sole arranger on the album and he composed the soundtracks in his recording studio.

The album cover photo was taken in Las Vegas and cropped to a background image of New York City where Dote' was born. It is like a mockery of his own pain and with this new album release, Dote' and the listening audience only have something to gain. It is "A Hard Life".
