Vernon Davis stepped onto the ice and started moonwalking, fully confident he could conquer the sport of curling — or at the least be respectable. He is an NFL star, after all. Then, the San Francisco 49ers tight end watched as Brian Zaitz glided down his lane of ice holding a lunge position and released a 42 1/2-pound granite stone with precision and touch, something that comes with years of curling at a high level. "Whooo, that's work right there. You guys really got to be strong," cracked Davis, known for his exceptional athleticism. "I don't see how you can get into this right ... Read Full Story

Vernon Davis found out in a hurry that his old antics won't be tolerated with Mike Singletary running the San Francisco 49ers' show. As if Davis needed a reminder. After the testy tight end scuffled — he won't call it a fight, rather just an act of being competitive — with linebacker Marques Harris during a recent practice, everybody paid. As in all the Niners running enough "gassers," 12 sprints across the width of the field, to make one pass out as Davis so put it. "A few guys were mad, but like I told them, 'You can't get mad because there will be ... Read Full Story

The San Francisco 49ers may be going through a major transition with the firing of head coach Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary taking his place, but that's not hindering tight end Vernon Davis from thinking about the kids in the hood. He recently donated $7,500 worth of Under Armour gear to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders that are a part of the 49ers Academy. "It was tops and bottoms to the kids so they can have something to wear when they're in physical education," Davis wrote in his blog. "It was important to me because those kids didn't have anything to work out in. ... Read Full Story

When the San Francisco 49ers selected tight end Vernon Davis in the 2006 draft, I thought they had the next Antonio Gates. He had the size and speed that made one believe Vernon had tools to do something special on the field at anytime, but somewhere everything went wrong with his attitude. I'm not sure exactly where it started. Maybe it was those "Click Clack" commercials he had. Maybe it was just one too many reporters kissing his butt and saying what a gifted player he was. The bottom line is that Davis just has not even come close to getting it done on ... Read Full Story

Apparently, all the bloggers are going crazy over Black’s supposed confession of her new man Vernon Davis (a DMV native). I don't believe it...they say they were canoodling all weekend at Big Tigger's Celebrity Classic . For one...I was there all weekend and (sorry VD ) but he was canoodling with everyone, not just Black . And furthermore, I saw with my own pretty brown eyes VD a little too pressed on someone else and she wasn't a D-list celeb. Things that make you go hmmm... Bloggers are also reporting that Seezins ’ is dating Seattle Sonics Kevin Durant , and Prancer is messing ... Read Full Story

I don't usually brag and boast, but I'll make an exception right now: there might be no person better qualified to copy and paste the embed code for this video of Vernon Davis curling than your author. Think about it: From September through December of 2005, I covered Davis as the Maryland football beat writer, and two months later, I spent the entire month of February covering Olympic curling in Pinerolo, Italy. Has anyone ever covered Vernon...

Because, really, before those comments the Chicago Bears had absolutely no reason to go out and play a football game. Could they go out and try to avenge their second embarrassing defeat in three games? Sure, but that would be an obvious reason to play in the NFL's first Thursday night game since the season opener. Could they go out and try to prove their defense is capable of stopping someone other than the Cleveland Browns? I suppose so, but...
