Vikki Zimmer Death Attributed to Natural Causes by Coroner

Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was presented the game ball after he helped coach his team to victory Sunday over the Baltimore Ravens, but the emotional coach clearly still had some other things on his mind. ZImmer's wife, Vikki Zimmer, passed away suddenly Thursday night, but details were slow to emerge from the shocking death in the Cincinnati family.

Hamilton County Coroner Dr. O’dell Owens said Monday that Vikki Zimmer's death was likely from natural causes after a weekend of puzzlement caused by a complete lack of details from the death. Owens has not said exactly what the cause of death was and toxicology tests are still pending, but he says signs show the death was not the result of an accident or foul play.

Zimmer's father, son and one of his daughters accompanied him to the game, after which cameras caught the emotional presentation of the game ball.

"It was a great tribute to Mike Zimmer and his family," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. "It’s just awesome. I don’t know how it could be any better for that. It’s great."
