Florida Panthers’ Ville Peltonen out with a broken foot
CORAL SPRINGS — Panthers left wing Ville Peltonen is expected to miss at least a week after suffering a broken right foot in Saturday’s 8-4 win over Atlanta.
While coach Peter DeBoer said he figured Peltonen would be out “a couple of weeks, anyway,” Peltonen himself said the injury wasn’t as serious as first expected and that he hoped to return next week.
Peltonen, 35, missed 24 games last season because of a broken left foot. In both instances, he was injured when hit by an opponent’s shot.
DeBoer said Peltonen was injured early in the game Saturday.
“To his credit he played and scored two goals,” DeBoer said.
That was only the second two-goal game of Peltonen’s career; the first came March 17, 2007, for the Panthers against the New York Islanders.
Peltonen has four goals and two assists in his last five games and for the season has eight goals and 17 assists, playing in each of the team’s 42 games. Last year he had five goals and 15 assists in 56 games.
