Not surprisingly, Congressman Virgil Goode quickly denied any involvement witht the gay themed movie, Eden's Curve , written and produced by Jerry Meadors , the artistic director of the North Theater in Danville , which received a $150,000 earmark from the federal budget due to Goode's efforts. Meadows went to great lengths to explain why Goode and his wife, Lucy, are thanked in the closing credits of Eden’s Curve. Of course, even if Goode had no involvement with the movie, many of the Neanderthals in his district will be none too happy now that they know that Goode has a gay Press Secretary who ... Incumbent Virgil Goode -- islamophobe and nativist -- was proclaimed the loser in the recount of the Virginia 5th Congressional district race. Democrat Tom Perriello bested Goode by a very close margin in a district which had been a reliably Republican. Goode is one of a number of lackluster politicians using fear and nativist appeals to score cheap political points. Among other vile tactics, in '06 Goode chose to denounce--instead of honoring--the election in Minnesota of Keith Ellison to the U.S. Congress. Why? Because Ellison is a convert to the Muslim faith. Thankfully, Goode and his ilk are joining a growing list of politicians ... Read Full Story

Del. Rob Bell, quoted in today’s Daily Progress: [W]e can all remember how negative mailings filled with innuendo and personal attacks helped defeat Virgil Goode in 2008. Does anybody have the faintest idea of what he’s talking about? I’m not aware of a single such mailing going out. Rep. Tom Perriello ran a very clean campaign.

Election payoffs can be startlingly swift, especially in the case of Tom Perriello. A year ago, the current Fifth District U.S. House representative laboriously rolled to the curb the inaptly named Virgil Goode, an incumbent whose habitation of a seat in the Capitol was mostly spectral. Mostly but not entirely. Goode’s absence was haunting Saturday.

Former Fifth District Rep. Virgil Goode often complained about runaway federal spending while simultaneously working hard to get federal money for local projects. Goode believed that as long as someone was shaking the Washington money tree, the Fifth District ought to get its share. Sen. Robert Hurt, R-Pittsylvania, said today he will seek the Republican nomination to run for the 5th District congressional seat. Hurt, 40, a lawyer, has been under pressure from the National Republican Congressional Committee to run for the seat held by freshman Democrat Tom Perriello of Albemarle County. Republicans consider Perriello, who narrowly defeated Rep. Virgil Goode, one of the most vulnerable freshmen Democratic congressmen.
