Virginia is a weird state, and I don’t just say that because I lived there for three years. Virginia is weird because they hold major elections on odd numbered years. As a result, the Gubernatorial Election is going to be held in November of 2009 and, assuming Mike Huckabee endorses Bob McDonnell, it will be the first true test of HuckPAC’s newly formed National Volunteer Team. I’ve never met Bob McDonnell, but every Virginia Republican I’ve talked to about McDonnell has offered nothing but ecstatic praise for the sitting Attorney General of Virginia. I’m still doing my own research into his background, but he ... Read Full Story

PPP Looked At Hypothetical Kaine-McDonnell Match-Up Richmond , VA ( 1140wrva.com ) – Governor Tim Kaine (D) would potentially be looking a tough re-election fight if he were allowed to run again, according to Public Policy Polling. PPP finds, from its most recent poll, that Kaine trails Bob McDonnell (R) 51% to 43%. McDonnell currently leads State Senator Creigh Deeds (D) 52% to 40%. PPP’s Tom Jensen says they did the poll to try and gauge how much of the race is resulting from Deeds’ tactics, and how much is dependent on national trends. Kaine’s results show it would be tough for many Democrats ... Read Full Story

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley criticized the Catholic Church's threat to cut off social services in Washington D.C. if the District passes a marriage equality law. Said Kaine: "I'm Catholic, and I think it's wrong. I...

Even during this long holiday weekend it's been impossible to escape the constant chatter about the now infamous White House crashers -- Virginia socialites Tareq and Michaele Salahi. Talking Points Memo has unearthed photos of the couple with U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Governor and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine (though the folks at TPM accidently call Kaine former governor, which of course, he won't be until Jan. 16). Kaine...

VIRGINIA, Va. -- It's probably the last time that Timothy M. Kaine will step outside his house in the morning to find two dead deer and a turkey on his doorstep. But yesterday, the outgoing Virginia governor and his wife, first lady Anne Holton, stood outside the Executive Mansion in Richmond to preside over a Thanksgiving tradition that dates to the late 1600s -- Virginia's Indian tribes paying tribute to the governor. On a damp and gray but...

Virginia's outgoing governor, Tim Kaine, presided over his final Thanksgiving ceremony this morning on Capitol Square in downtown Richmond. And this one -- like all the ones before it -- included some wild game. Not to mention a host of traditions that date back more than three centuries. Members of Virginia's Mattaponi and Pamunkey Indian tribes were on hand to offer Kaine their annual tribute of wild game in lieu of paying taxes on their...

Photo by maxedaperture No disrespect meant to Governor Tim Kaine, whom I'm sure is a competent storm chaser, but are there seriously not more qualified people in the Commonwealth of Virginia to do this sort of thing? While I'm certain that a helicopter tour of the state would have given Kaine a better impression of the damage done in Hampton Roads by storms, that helicopter tour might have informed any number of state employees who are 1...
