It's a quiet week for Wii and DSi downloadable releases, with most excitement being stirred up by Bejeweled Twist on DSi and Earthworm Jim 2 in the Wii Virtual Console. The first of this week's new Virtual Console™ releases gives new meaning to the term "underground legend," sending players down a mysterious manhole for a classic subterranean adventure. Another fine addition to the Virtual Console section of the Wii Shop Channel features the iconic hero Earthworm Jim in a fun-packed sequel from the SEGA Genesis era.  

The Wii Virtual Console is due to get a double dose of 8-bit adventure soon, as the ESRB has rated Sega Master System spin-off Alex Kidd in Shinobi World and NES classic Blaster Master for Nintendo's service. Alex Kidd in Shinobi World was, sadly, the last game in the Alex Kidd series to be released, a title that originally began its existence as Kid Shinobi before Sega opted to capitalize on its largely forgotten mascot. Plus Touch Golf and Rock N' Roll Climber among this week's new downloads. The original arcade version of Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden has gone up on the Wii Virtual Console store today, topping a fairly decent list of new Nintendo downloads.Click here to read the full article

As per topic: The original (and best) Mario Kart has finally hit the Wii's Virtual Console for 800 points. I know there's been "homebrew" versions floating around for a while, but it's nice to see the original be made officially available. I had no idea there was a Sega Master System version of this, but after looking at YouTube videos it actually looks a lot like the Genesis version. I'm a little surprised that they'd rerelease this since Sega didn't acknowledge the game for the longest time after its release. I guess publicity changes things... #virtualconsole spiderweb1986
